Mike Gimbel Teams up with Amatus Health to Combat Substance Abuse
Former Baltimore County Drug Czar, Mike Gimbel, has partnered up with Amatus Health, a national behavioral health organization based in Owings Mills, Maryland. The two are working together to increase drug prevention and treatment services throughout Maryland. Gimbel was the first director of Baltimore County’s Office of Substance Abuse in 1980, where he served for 25 years. Now, Gimbel works as the host of the syndicated drug education television show “Straight Talk” for 30 years. Gimbel is regularly called upon by the local and national news media to comment on substance abuse issues. Gimbel has over 46 years clean from drugs and alcohol. Gimbel has begun working alongside Amatus in a fight to bring awareness to the opioid epidemic, which recently surpassed car crashes as the leading cause of accidental deaths in the United States. Opioids overdoses kill 1 in 96 people. Maryland, Gimbel and Amatus Health’s home state, is among the top five states with the highest rates of opioid-related deaths.
Amatus Health is a nationally recognized provider of substance abuse services by maintaining and supporting premier substance use and mental health treatment centers throughout the United States. Based in Owings Mills, Maryland, Amatus Health is committed to expanding their services in the State of Maryland. “I am extremely impressed with the professionalism and dedication of the entire staff at Amatus Health and look forward to working together on developing new education, prevention and treatment services for the citizens of Maryland.” said Mike Gimbel.
“Mike Gimbel is a national expert in the field of substance abuse and addictions and we are honored and excited to be working side by side with him, to make a difference on today’s very serious drug epidemic,” said Michael Silberman, Amatus Chief Operating Officer.
